Tae Kwon Do Oath

The Tae Kwon Do Oath serves as a guideline for how students should live.

I shall observe the Tenets of Tae Kwon Do.

I shall respect my instructors and seniors.

I shall never misusue Tae Kwon Do.

I shall be a champion of freedom and justice.

I shall build a more peaceful world.

The tenets of Tae Kwon Do are a set of ideals that sets Tae Kwon Do apart from other marital arts. Tae Kwon Do is based on a philosophy of the mind and spirit and how the student incoroprates those into their body. The five tenets are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverence, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

Courtesy is being able to respect all people with personal feelings set aside.

Integrity requires full honesty in all situations and the ability to conduct oneself in an upright manner.

Perseverance is being diligent and patient in order to overcome all obstacles and problems.

Self-Control is what allows a person to restrain temper, emotions and desires and use moderation in all that they do.

Indomitable Spirit is what a person transforms into when practicing all of the tenets. It is an attitude that you cannot be overcome.
