Understanding the Color Belts

White Belt
The color white signifies the innocence and purity of the beginning student because they have no previous knowledge of Tae Kwon Do and is looking for a new way of life.

Yellow Belt
This belt signifies earth. Just as in the Chinese character, earth is on the bottom. It is the basic line. This is the foundation, where someone must begin, just as a plant begins to grow in the earth.

Green Belt

Green signifies growth is Tae Kwon Do. This is just like the green in foliage shows there is growth and life.

Blue Belt

The sky and water are the only two natural examples of the color blue. This belt signifies the height and depth of Tae Kwon Do that the student must work towards.

Red Belt
Red is a symbol of royalty as well as a signal of warning or danger. This belt signifies a crucial time in the journey of a Tae Kwon Do student. This is when they have learned enough to be dangerous, but has not yet balanced that with control.

Black Belt

Black is the only color that cannot change. This is the final stage in Tae Kwon Do. It is a combination of all other colors. This belt signifies the indomitable spirit toward fear and evil.

**Useful Tip

As you gain more belts and stripes, usually the time you have to train between each grading increases!

This is to make sure you have enough training and are not only physically, but mentally ready before you are ready to recieve the next belt/stripe.
